Karkheh Dam” is a half-hour documentary that chronicles the story of the largest dam construction project in Iran’s history. On its surface, the film is a straight-forward history of the dam’s construction. It details the initial plans by the Americans to build it in the 1950’s, its long delay during the Iran-Iraq war, and its final completion in 2001. Beneath the surface, the film touches upon pivotal turning points in Iran’s history. It is also infused with breath-taking imagery from the giant artificial lake that was created by the dam and its natural surroundings.
